Joao Fernandes Lopes

CS and Autonomous systems Engineer

Specialized in Drones, Robots, Perception Interaction and Control.

As a recent graduate from the University of Bordeaux with a Master's degree in
Computer Science, I specialize in Autonomous Systems, Perception,
Interaction, and Control. I have a deep passion for robotics, electronics,
artificial intelligence, and am now actively seeking a job opportunity to apply
my skills and contribute to innovative projects in these fields.

My lifelong curiosity for technology and experimentation naturally led me to a
career in computer science. I am a serious and hardworking professional,
and my Master's program solidified my interest in the complex challenges
and vast potential of robotics. I am eager to tackle real-world problems
and develop autonomous systems.

I am looking for a full-time position in the fields of robotics, drones,
and the development of autonomous systems in general. I am excited
to join a professional team where I can learn from experienced engineers,
contribute to meaningful projects, and continue to grow and refine my skills.

Outside of my professional life, I enjoy spending my time playing and coaching
people on video games, watching movies with my family, working out at the
gym, and going out with friends.

Drone Porteur - 2025

(click the title for more info)

In a group of three students, for our Master 2 graduation project,
we took on the "Drone Porteur" subject. The goal was to
create a solution in order to setup a small drone on a bigger one,
and when it's up in the air initiate a drop sequence. Once
it's done, it will start its mission autonomously and
land when completed.

Several technical skills were required for the project,
for exemple CAD design, electonics knowledge, study of
different APIs in order to make the drones move and
function etc. All the goals were completed in
a little more than two months of work.

RoboCup Project - 2024

(click the title for more info)

What's the RoboCup ? It's a robotics competition
where teams face eachother trying to complete
a set of challenges, and innovate in different
categories such as Soccer, Home, Rescue
and more.

In our case, our team of three students were
tasked to solve the Vision BlackOut challenge
in the Soccer SSL category. Usually the robots playing
are controlled by a camera system, but in this
challenge, the camera system is disabled and the
robots must play using only their sensors (camera).

First Bot - 2024

(click the title for more info)

First Bot is a project made in collaboration with
the Einserb MatMeca Engeneering School. The goal
of the project is to create a robot that can
follow a line on the ground, and avoid obstacles.
In our case, we had two lines to follow, one red line
and one black line.

We had the necessary material given to us such as
a motor, a camera, a raspberry pi and more. Other
challenges we had to this project were kinematics
and odometry of the robot.

R&D Research Development - 2025 ( 5 months )

(click the title for more info)

In order to complete my Master's degree, I had to do a
4 to 6-month internship in a company. I chose to do it
at I2M (Institut de Mécanique et d'Ingénierie),
in the Research and Development department.
The project I worked on was part of SDC2, short for
(Smart Disassembly Cell For Circularity).

The main goal of the project was to put to use Industry 4.0 technologies
for a more circular economy. In order to achieve that
I worked on the development of an algorithm able to do component
identification and localization on a disassembly line, using a robotic arm
equipped with a camera, and use it to extract and reuse or recycle them.

Web Development - 2022 ( 1,5 months )

During the summer of 2022, I had the opportunity to work as a
web developer intern at LibNGo, a medical replacement service
based in Bordeaux. The opportunity was not mandatory but I wanted
to make a step into the professional world. This experience
allowed me to enhance my skills in web development and most
importantly gain practical experience in a professional environment.

The tasks I was assigned during my internship were mainly focused on
the development and maintenance of the company's website. I worked on
improving the user interface, optimizing the site's performance, and
implementing new features to enhance the user experience. I also had
to work on the company's app framework transition, from Svelte to React.
